WHO TOOK THE CONDOMS? YOUR PARTNER OR YOUR 13 YEAR OLD?

July 14th 2008 03:11
I love hypotheticals. I threw this one at Mr M last night.

You notice that your stash of condoms has decreased by a few. You wonder who could have taken them? Was it your wife/husband/partner or your 13 year old son or daughter? At this very moment, who do you hope has taken them?

What if your son or daughter was 16? Does it change things?

Or even 18?

Or is the possibility of an extra-marital affair too much to bear?

Who would you hope has taken them?

Hmmm

Tough one. Hate to think that it had got to the point where I was keeping count. Though Birthday's and New Year's aren't hard to keep a track of

<LOL> funny (and scary!) yoda76!

Hmm...tough one, Mrs M!
I think, I'd prefer it to be the teen -- at least s/he is doing it safe, albeit not quite the age you had hope him/her to be doing it ...or then go into denial that s/he was giving it to his/her best friend

I misread your last line: Who would you hope has taken them?

I thought you said 'the pope has taken them'.

And I thought that was an interesting thought.

I shouldn't read when I'm tired and World Youth Day is dominating Sydney streets.

Got me there Yoda.

Mind you the labrador is on heat at the moment and the manic male is doing a little lap work in anticipation.

. . . and Raven - as for grandma - well . . .

yoda,

I for one would freak out more if the 13 year old took the condoms than you.

Hi MNG,

Tough yes...and your answer?

Hi Raven,

Grandma???? I don't want to go there.

Hi Sara,

Blow them up like balloons. Can't say I've ever done that

Hi Lara,

Yes it would be of comfort to know that at least the 13 year old is being safe. But giving them to the best friend.....yeah denial can work too.

Hi Tracy,

It would be amusing if the pope was stealing the condoms.

Hi Damo,

Great wiindshields?!?! The many uses of a condom.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

Any kid raised by me would have filled the condom up with water and bombarded me from a strategic hiding place while I was going into the house with 2 full bags of groceries.

Then they would have reaped the full benefit of retaliation once I turned the garden hose onto them.

13? They have no idea what they're doing at 13. I don't care if they got access to the most explicit sex movie made--they still have no idea. I don't buy that "kids nowadays are more sophisticated" line either--kids start getting curious about sex as early or late as they always have since mankind was born.

I'd have to take the stand that if my hypothetical kid wanted to participate in adult activities, they must also take on the responsibilities that go with adult activities; that includes sex, driving, drinking, staying out late, etc. etc. Too many parents I've observed with teens let their kids have all of the privileges of adulthood without any of the responsibilities that go with them!

If my husband took the condom? Well, since that's a pretty blatant action, I'd ask him just what the hell he's trying to tell me--after which he'd probably wing it at my head, filled up with water...

Hmmm - I'd say - given the labrador doesn't have opposable thumbs - it would be a little difficult to use - so perhaps the kids for a science experiment courtesy Mrs Nice Guy.

Hi D,

I don't buy that "kids nowadays are more sophisticated" line either--kids start getting curious about sex as early or late as they always have since mankind was born.
I tend to agree with that and in fact you have inspired my next post.

I remember being in Year 6 and there was a rumour of a a couple of girls having sex. We knew what sex was at 12. At highschool it was a topic of conversation from day one. At 13 some people were having sex, at 16 it was a given if you had a boyfriend/girlfriend then you were definitely having sex.

There's one thing I keep saying over and over in my head and that's to remember that when I was 13, 16, 18 I wasn't an idiot. My parents just dismissed me because I couldn't possibly understand. I was too young.

So maybe it's not that kids are more sophisticated today, maybe people are just realising that teenagers aren't idiots nor naive.

And I'm all for teaching kids the consequences. I'm all for tough love. It's a fine line between letting kids stuff up and pick themselves up and letting them go ahead and make what is possibly a life altering mistake. But if my teenager makes off with my car and smashes it I'm certainly not going to be making excuses for their stupidity. Apparently the frontal lobe of the brain where all the decisions are made isn't fully developed until late teens/early 20's. But it has developed somewhat so is still in some sort of functioning order so I do think that kids can still determine what seems like a good a idea from a bad one.

"They" say that kids are bombarded more my advertising which I tend to agree with because it's not just kids that are slammed with more advertising.

I can ramble can't I....

Hi MNG,

Yes, science. Experimenting has a lot to answer for

The babysitter.... the cleaner... the electrician.... the delivery man... I mean, don't people usually go rifling through other people's drawers????

If my husband had taken them, he'd probably have used them to put his mobile phone in while he was running a marathon - wouldn't want the old mobile to get sweaty now, would we?

Interesting dilemma Mrs M

I would be horrified that my 13 year old was taking them but i think I would be more inclined to lean toward them - you know, they are just being inquisitive, heard about these condom things and want to see what they look like, showing them around the school yard.

I`d like to think my husband would be a little more savvy than to nick ours and would have been buying more for his recreational activities, should he be indulging in them.

Like Ash, Id assume my man is too smart to take from our stash....And if he has to use condoms with his mistress, she's not that much of a mistress. Yep, the 13 yr old would be nicking them just to check em out. Show em off "Oh, look what I got" sorta thing.

And when it comes to our stash, you'd have to nick a few. One ribbed, one studded, one strawberry, one chocolate.....

Either that or the bloody cats are chewing them up again.

Apparently I'm 20 years old, and that feels really old. I used to be all 'hey I'm young' until I turned 19 then I knew 20 wasn't far off. 20 years old is when you're old, like really old and it can only get worse, up until just february this year I felt like I was growing, now I feel like I'm dying a slow miserable death which will possibly stretch over the next 60-ish years if I even have that much time on this earth.

The sad part is I'm not even joking ^_^

btw I threw them out, they had icky stuff in them XD

Quite the conundrum there Mrs. M. Can I just be an ostrich about his? Maybe I would be glad that folks are practicing safe sex. Hmmmmmm I guess I will have to prayerfully about it.

Either way it's the wrong thing to be worried about.

People make too big a deal out of sex.

If my 13 year old has decided to have sex, I'd be damn proud they were smart enough to take precautions. Sex is a moment, babies are forever.

If my partner was sleeping with someone else, I'd still be less concerned with where they were sticking their bits, and more concerned with what we share together.

Hi L,

Yes, you're right. At least the 13 year old is smart enough to protect him/herself from pregnancy and disease but I wouldn't dismiss sex as just a moment.

These are the moments that we most remember.

I'd be less concerned if it was my 16 year old and by the time they're 18, it's their business.

13 just seems too young for me.

As for my partner, I know if Mr M had an affair I wouldn't automatically boot him out because an affair is something I'm sure we could discuss. Every marriage has its ups and downs.
