WOULD YOU GO MAD BEING IN HI-5, THE WIGGLES OR PLAYSCHOOL?

June 15th 2007 06:00
I can’t believe I’m watching Hi-5 and none of my kids are even home at the moment. My first two children were into Hi-5 and my third is not old enough yet; but I’m already bored by it.

I’ve seen all this stuff before. Do you think the member of Hi-5, The Wiggles or Playschool get bored by doing the same stuff over again? Sure the songs are different, but they are about the same things.

Perhaps The Wiggles don’t get too bored because they are the creators and therefore I would imagine are challenged to write the new songs and segments. But the members of Hi-5 are ‘performers’. From what I understand they don’t write any of the songs or segments.

As for Playschool…I have to admit I’m not bored by that yet, surprisingly; since it hasn’t changed in 40 years.

I enjoyed watching these shows when my eldest was young, but I’ve grown up (again). I want to watch something else.

I'm sure their paychecks keep them amused.

I can watch Sporticus all day on my own.

I think it's the sign of a good show if after so many watches of it you aren't bored, maybe with productions like Hi-5 (I'm only going on the limited amount I've seen) that the fact it's in front of a live young audience that it makes it that more enjoyable and different each time. I suppose though at the end of the day each job can become boring after a while.

Take Care.

I watch The Wiggles with my nieces and nephews. They are a little creepy. Maybe it is just that I worked as a shrink in the criminal justice system for years and that has soured me. I will say though that I can watch Magic School Bus, Mister Rogers, and Dora for hours on end!

I am guessing that after a while gallows hummor sets in and the cast is making perverted jokes etc.... I say that and remember that my favorite Children's TV show of all time that wasn't really for children was Pee Wee's Playhouse. Today's secret word of the day......

Hi Kleonaptra,

My little pony!
Really? You and horses?

Hi Damo,

I love learning little things about the people here on Orble

Hi yoda76,

Apparently Hi-5 are just mugs like the rest of us...working for the man.

While the Wiggles are the man...in skivvies.

Hi Sarah,

Maybe if I was in the audience at Hi-5...I don't know...but yes everyone gets bored of their jobs...eventually.

Hi Mis,

I haven't been to a Wiggles show but I hear that Captain Feathersword really does make it funny for the parents...so maybe he goes for that kind of humour that only parents get. I don't know.

Interestingly I heard that whenever The Wiggles have their photos taken with children they always do 'the wiggle fingers' just so no-one can accuse them of putting their hands in inappropriate places.

Thanks everyone for the visit and comments.

You had me...in stitches at "!..."!!!

I've outgrown all of those but I do know for a fact that few mothers used to watch PlaySchool...wayyy after their kids had outgrown it (like 20years after!) when Colin Friels was on!

Also...The Bugs Bunny Show with Sophie Lee.

Anyone remember that?

...all of a sudden...grown men..."what's up doc?"!!

With Hi-5...they're all just so purtee...I miss Kathleen now that she's gone and got all grown up with a baby and $800 Chanel ballet flats and all.

Yeah, baby.

Yah. $800 Chanel ballet flats. She collects them. I'm in the wrong business.

...or maybe we (DDH and I...and all parents) should have charged admission...

Plus...the members of Hi-5 were/are/still getting on with each other.

It's fun to try and catch something untoward about something supposedly innocuous!

I’ve grown up (again). I want to watch something else.

That's why The Lion King and Shrek and Monsters Inc and Toy Story (and others of this ilk) were and are so popular.

Thy're not for children.

They're for childults!!

Have a great weekend Mrs M!

much warmth

Hi Dusk,

Well the fact that Kelly and Nathan were a couple and now have split, I watch intently for tension....oooohhhh.....but I can't see any.

$800 Chanel ballet shoes...I'd be to scared to wear them. Seriously, if you want piss money away like that, piss it my direction.

I remember Sophie Lee and the Bugs Bunny Show. That always struck me as wrong.. Don't know why, but it just did.

Out of all the childult (to borrow your term) movies I've seen, Cat in the Hat is the worst for 'discreet' adult humour - Mike Myers tsk tsk.

Have a good weekend Dusk.

Mrs. M,

"I love you...you love me..."

Oh good God I hate Barney! And the Wiggles? Oh don't even get me started!

Just gimme Yosemite Sam, Bugs Bunny and a healthy dose of The Transformers and I'll be fine!

LOL

Hi Nick,

Mr M hates Barney too. LOL. I've threatened him with Barney in the past.

Nothin' beats those Looney Tunes cartoons.

I never got into Transformers but Mr M is dying to see the new Transformers movie - reclaiming his misspent youth.

Hi Mrs M,

I don't mind Hi-5 but can't stand The Wiggles. My hubby likes The Wiggles but doesn't like Hi-5. Oh yeah, they're kids shows aren't they? Ah, my daughter loves The Wiggles most. I don't know if they get bored, but I wonder if they ever look back on their videos and get really embarrassed at some of the faces they've made. I know I would!

Hi Candice,

I watched Denton's Enough Rope last week and Cate Blanchett was on. She was saying that she and her husband often watch 'the kiddie shows' and try to decify the actor's motivation, how the scenes lead into each other. That's when you know have to get out.

I wonder if they ever look back on their videos and get really embarrassed at some of the faces they've made. I know I would!

I would too

Thanks for the visit and comment Candice.

Hi Mrs M

I watched Hi-5 the other morning

I used to watch 'Teletubbies' with my Godson many years ago. We were deprived in Africa - we never got Play school - we got Harry`s House and Rainbow.... Rainbow is the ultimate kids programme and sadly I still remember the theme tune...

Up above the streets and houses
Rainbow climbing high

I`ll stop now!

I agree with Dusk... I don`t recall some her choices but cartoons are soooo made for adults these days. I HAVE to go and see the latest releases... and I`m not even embarrassed enough to take little people with me!

I LOVE CARTOONS AND Im PROUD OF IT!!!!

I loved Bugs Bunny, Donald Duck, Speedy Gonzales and had the biggest collection of Disney Cartoons before we had to leave our home... it`s sad I know but I have to feed that inner child!

Great Post Mrs M.... watch on!

ash

PS I`m with Mr - I can`t wait to see the new 'Transformers' movie - they were almost as cool as He Man!!

Hi Ash,

We were deprived in Africa
Forget lining up for hours for petrol, you had to watch Teletubbies

Mr M comes running from the next room just to see the ad for the movie on TV. This is getting out of hand.

Love & stuff
