IT'S THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
December 21st 2006 02:37
I’ve done it. I graduated kindergarten (for the second time). No I didn’t repeat a year; the first was when I attended school; the second is my daughter attending school; she has made it through the year. She seems fairly unscarred by the entire process. She can’t wait for the holidays, like most of her friends, and doesn’t really appreciate the significance of what she has achieved.
This year we relinquished control just that bit more and gave our kids a little more responsibility and the opportunity to fall flat on their face in order to learn how to pick themselves up again. They forged new friendships, had squabbles, sorted it out and created “rules” for their little social circle.
But enough about the kids. We parents have achieved something too.
We have gotten out of bed rain, hail or shine; made lunches; cleaned uniforms, socks, shoes; finished homework; helped in the classroom, fete, canteen but most of all we have all gotten to know each other rather well. It’s not just the kiddies who made friends this year.
Each morning and afternoon we would hang around the playground and chat about this or that; our spouses, our children, our work, our lives.
And today marks the end of our first year together. Our children will share many more experiences, as will the parents.
And tonight is no exception. You see tonight the parents are letting their hair down and going out for a good old-fashioned end of year piss up. It’s going to be messy, it’s going to be loud, it’s going to give the five year olds a run for their money and I can’t wait.

I didn't doubt we'd make it. I am stunned though at how much she has grown in a year.
I have another 2 boys after my daughter. So it will be a lovely treat to do this 2 more times.
Hi Peg,
All the kiddies are looking forward to Christmas. It just encompasses their whole world at the moment.
Parent's night out was GOOD!!! Alot of parent's let their hair down and their guard down. Learnt quite a few things about the parents last night

The gods were smiling upon me and I woke up feeling fine. Made we want to go out and do it all over again
Having said that, nothing could compare to those pina coladas from the other night.
