IT CERTAINLY WAS A MOTHER OF A DAY
May 14th 2007 02:43
Well….my Mother’s Day started at 6.30am; woken by two very excited children dying to wish me a Happy Mother’s Day.
“Thanks kids…now go away…mummy is trying to sleep”.
But peaceful slumber eluded me because the kids wanted to get on with the day. I was suddenly woken (again) by the kids shoving breakfast in my face.
“Breakfast in bed for you mummy…we made it ourselves”.
“Oh really….why?” I didn’t actually say that…but the thought did cross my mind. I was still half asleep…I was functioning on survival mode…instincts were kicking in.
I got myself out of bed and was presented with my goodies and cards which were lovely. My four year old son didn’t actually hand me a present and got most upset. Quick thinking Mr M grabbed one of my shirts off the coat hanger and shoved into a gift bag. My son then ‘gave’ me my present…just what I’ve always wanted and needed…a white t-shirt. My son seemed pleased with himself.
We got ourselves together and went out to lunch and then visited my mother (which is a drama unto itself that will take too long to explain…and even then it won’t make sense).
But as the day was drawing to an end the whole notion of ‘Mother’s Day’ and being pampered was beginning to wear off. Well the kids needed to get ready for bed, kitchen needs to be tidied, toys packed away, vacuuming, mopping, grocery shopping and it goes on.
Mr M wasn’t feeling the best last night so he lay down (but I will mention here that he did help with some of the ‘chores’ before his body gave out on him). The kids were too tired from the busy day to help; they collapsed into bed…which I will say is a blessing.
So there I was finishing Mother’s Day with a trip to the supermarket and mopping the floor at 10pm.
Feeling a little flat I re-read my card from my six year old daughter. It said,
To Mum,
Happy Mother’s Day
I love you Mum
I love you in my heart
I will never stop loving you
You are the best in the world
Love from Jordan

I hope you are feeling more energized soon!
Mothers Days become more expensive as you get older don`t they? Where are the days of scrunched up flowers and cold toast?????

Amen to that! You can't get Gucci sunnies for scrunchy flowers and toast!
Seriously, though, I've said it before, and will keep on saying it - you're an awesome Mum.
You rock!

It's funny, I was stressing all day to not 'spoil' mother's day for my kids.
Hi Wendi,
...then yes...I am very grateful
Hi Ash,
I am feeling a little more energized. I am happy that the kids are very excited by mother's day...just another sign that they are doing okay...
yoda,
Thank you very much...now where are my sunnies!
Hi Candice,
It is a great card. It's what you hope for really...for your kids to feel that way...hope that they love you as much as you love them....and that is what makes mopping floor less tedious.
Thank you everyone for your comments and visit.

You are quite the quick thinking mother! Very ingenuis!

That is so adorable what little Jordan wrote and what more could you want from Mother's Day... well apart from a trip to the supermarket and mopping the floor at 10pm and all the other stuff.

A wonderful tale... *tears* my kids have learnt to allow me a sleep in for Mother's Day... gotta start to train them now, mum...*chuckle*
My card from my baby said:
Bells are blue
Plants are red
but no one is,
as warm as you.
I pray you have a lovely day.
My other card from my teenager?
Well she has CP and you've got to know her to understand economy in writing - and that anything other than her 'name' signed - is a real, bonus!
This year I got a "luv from" on my card... it made me smile...
We must be special, huh?

Hi Kleonaptra,
Hi Sarah,
I was a bit blown away by what Jordan wrote. She's only six so obviously her vocabulary is developing at a great pace....so it is definitely a pleasant surprise when they can express themselves like that.
Hi Lilla,
Thanks everyone for the visit and the comments.
Love & stuff
