NO EASTER SHOW FOR ME....YAY!

April 18th 2007 02:58
Today is the last day of the Easter Show and we’re just not going to make it out the door. We were supposed to go yesterday, but we didn't. I thought, maybe today. But it’s lunch time and I’m still in my pyjamas – that’s how behind the eight ball I am. But that’s okay. I’m at peace with my slothiness. But right now I need to dig deep and find the courage of a 1000 men (or 300 Spartans…ooohhh) to break the news to my daughter.

“Sweetie, I don’t think we’re going to go to the Easter Show this year. I think it’s just going to be too hard”.

She looks at me…I hold my breath…. “Okay”, turns on her heel and goes.

Okay? Did she just say okay? No fit, no tantrum, no grandiose accusatory statement of unfair treatment?

Nope, nothing.

I think we underestimate kids sometimes. When I was young I remember often thinking the adults in my life didn’t give me enough credit.

When my kids are selfless…it just sends warm and fuzzies right through me.

Almost makes we want to scoop them up and take them to the Easter Show….almost.

Come to Hawkesbury show instead. I had never been until last year, cos Camden was always my show, but we moved to the west and THEN I find out that Hawkesbury is second only to the Easter show! Its just as big, but far more relaxed, far more low key, with all the show trimmings and excitement.
Forgive me for pushing you to go....Im a show girl. Im there when they open the gates and they have to drag me out screaming at the end of the night! I dont go on rides...I just eat, and eat and eat....Get fake tattoos, and watch the showjumping, and the hacking, and the breed showing, and the dressage, and the heavy horses, then the birds....Adore the poultry shed! I just cant get enough of that special "Im at the show!" feeling!

Sometimes the simple things in life are overlooked by us adults, aren't they. All the noise, food, animals, rides, etc etc etc of the Easter show aren't always what our children want after all.

Sometimes just being with us is enough. Doesn't matter where.

The Easter show is too damn expensive, anyway!!!

Hope you and Mr M are enjoying the last week of holidays, Mrs M.

Hi Kleonaptra,

When's the Hawkesbury Show on?

Hi Andrea,

Sometimes the simple things in life are overlooked by us adults

You are absolutely right.

And the holidays are actually getting better. I think they've worked out that doing "nothing" can be kind of cool. Just in time to go back to school next week Gotta love it.

Love & stuff

Ohhhhh....come on now....I was looking forward to exchanging tales of woe "woah that was cool"...!

...but you were saved by the bella...

I think we underestimate kids sometimes.
Hmm...I know I definitely underestimate my 17yo daughter...

However...I do know that if I had said no to my youngest, he would have been happy with whatever we chose to do.
...but it was his birthday...and his father and I are indulgent because he's our only hope... ie. he's not a teenager yet...

I’m at peace with my slothiness.
....you slothario you...!
So am I!

Enjoy.

This post is for the kids.

Gets my vote any day.

Funny how kids still get underrated, considering how far we are from the common and unthoughtful "Children are to be seen, not heard" scenario of yesteryear.

Loved the post,
Opto

Hi Dusk,

Let's just say I don't think I'm going to get away with next year.

Slothario...sound like a super hero. Can walk past unwashed dishes without a backward glance.

Hi Opto,

"Children are to be seen, not heard"

Not a chance of that in my household. Even if I tried.

Thanks for the visit and the comments. Much appreciated.

Love & stuff

Ah Mrs M, your daughter is learning reverse psychology at a young age... *grin*

But right now I need to dig deep and find the courage of a 1000 men (or 300 Spartans…ooohhh) to break the news to my daughter.

it`s great to know that parents also live in fear of earth shattering revelations!

I'll let you know, because Im going, so I'll have the dates soon.
It really is more relaxed than the Easter Show, just as big but very laid back. Its still pricey, but you dont feel like your being robbed like at Easter Show!
