SO THIS IS 2008…..AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
January 4th 2008 01:53
Well the end of 2007 rolled around earlier this week and like most people during this festive season I reflected on last year, made ambitious promises for this new year that I will reflect on in about 360 days or so.
I’m also in the auspicious (….maybe) position of celebrating my birthday on New Year’s Day. So for me it’s a rather tidy and convenient time to reflect on what I promised to do and what I actually did (not do).
I must say though that over the last few years my personal checklist has been waning a little….I’m not achieving as much for myself as I would like.
Am I being too ambitious? I don’t think so.
Is my motivation lacking? Maybe a teeny weeny bit.
Am I time poor? BINGO!!!!!
So in order to make myself feel better about what I have achieved in 2007 I have decided to hijack my children’s achievements and add them to my list.
Here are a few things I managed to achieve (along with my children) in 2007:-
Jordan (6) learnt to spell about a million words, paint beautifully and is now classed as an independent reader.
Alex (4) can write his name, do the freestyle stroke and wipe his own bottom.
Christian (2) can run, jump and throw (a fit) and loves to sing “Revolution” and “Paperback Writer” by The Beatles.

So new resolution is to make the game more exciting smaller so that people can actually download it without breaking their download limits.
yay.
As for being too ambitious, meh, ambitions only true enemy is time, patience and hardwork over a period of time will allow you to achieve your goals, no matter how ambitious.

Last year was my 'getting myself together year', where I tied up a lot of loose ends and got myself more set up with work - I (think) I'm ready to actually achieve more tangible things this year.

BTW, Happy Birthday!

Mrs M, as always is being modest.
She HAS had some articles published (one coming up in next month's Sydney's Child, I believe). She has taken this blog from nothing to what seems like a devoted readership, and has re-entered the workforce, working from home (not the writing).
Not bad when you throw it all in with all her other roles as full-time mum, wife, cook, social planner, grocery shopper, critic (my most honest and harsh

It must be nice when a little one can finally wipe their own bottom!!!!!
The fact that you have time to do ANYTHING when raising 3 kids.......that in itself is amazing!
Here's hoping 2008 is a good one

My mother always says our achievements are her achievements of being a mother. Perhaps you've achieved for yourself after all!

You make me laugh. When I've got a minute and a spare 23MB I'll have a look at your game
Hi Michaelie,
You go girl. I think I'll do better this year too. Assuming my youngest doesn't give up his day sleep, then we could be onto something.
I've had some articles published and I've got a couple more coming up next month and working on a couple more as we speak....c'mon momentum.
yoda,
I have 2 articles coming up in next month's Sydney's Child....not 1.
Thank you for your kind words. Much appreciated
Where's my Audi?
Hi Kylie,
It is nice when they can wipe their own bottoms but Alex often finds me, bends over, spreads his bottom and asks me if he is clean. He is so charming.
I suppose he'll be doing that in 20 years, but hanging out of a car window. Ah boys.
Hi Raven,
Thank you so much for the compliment. But when I compare myself to my mother, I think I'm on easy street.
It's only now I can really appreciate what a massive job she did to raise us and work. My dad is very old school and so wasn't very hands on. Mum didn't have a washing machine until I was 8. My brother bought it for her with his first pay cheque. She's never owned a dishwasher. Those labour saving devices are a huge help and still sometimes I whinge. I shouldn't whinge....
Hi Amy,
I like your mum's thinking
Hi MNG,
Christian's singing is bloody hilarious. He goes along with the harmonies. At the end of Revolution when John is going nuts singing "Alright, alright", Christian goes off too. Brilliant stuff, that is definitely the pay off.
Hi Lily,
Glad to hear you still get a chuckle out of Shotgun Wedding and thanks for the birthday wishes.
I actually wrote that wedding bit so I'm glad you like it. I often wonder whether I can get across what's in my head.
Celebrating my birthday on new year's wasn't great during the school years; it was fantastic in my early 20's; and now that I have a young family it has dulled down again somewhat, but they'll grow up and I'll go nuts again.
Thanks everyone for the visit and the comments. They were great.
Love & stuff

Jimbo ad libbed the 'finding my keys' line. I remember the crew had to all muffle a laugh when he said it. He was good.

I had one, the youngest who was capable of doing it herself as she had amazing manual dexterity skills very early who insisted on calling me until she was about 7 by which time I said, you can't really go into the big school with me still having to wipe your bottom, at which time she capitulated and did it herself.
But up until then she'd yell, I done a tortoise for ya, (as if I wanted it), tortoise came from the small step stool we had in there for the children when they were little, and I'm sure the whole neighbourhood heard so it was easier to just go in and do it rather than trying to shut her up, she was such a gorgeous easy child, being the spoilt youngest I guess, that somehow I never minded doing things for her she caused so few problems around the house, other than sibling jealousies in which all three took part, without needing any prompting whatsoever, so all those other skills you describe pale into insignificance when compared with the bottom wiping.
But you are doing just great and you have the whole of your life ahead of you. Thanks for playing the Orble game.

Well it's one less thing I have to do during the day. Alex is starting school this year so I used the "no-one else is going to wipe your bottom at school". He so desperately wants to go to school that it didn't take much convincing.

Getting a lot of pressure here to put up the Behind the Scenes video.

Alex seems to be farting a lot lately....mostly around Mr M....quite amusing when you think about it.

My parents keep telling the story that I wore nappies until I was 4, when I was 2, they apparently told me they are too old to help me with my nappies anymore so I had to learn to go to the toilet, but guess what? I ended up learning how to wrap myself up! (And then my dad put his foot down when I turned 4, it was getting ridiculous)
So there we go, another trick to teach your kids

I don't know if I would cope with that. I've still got one more get out of nappies, hopefully he doesn't pull that stunt.
That's great Amy.

I used to teach kindergarten and the wiping w/o help. farting for amusement, and painting... the wonders of childhood never cease to amaze me. I want to give you guys a high five from across the pond for putting your kids first. I wish more folks did. Savor every moment sister. They grow up so quickly!

The biggest accomplishment for all of us for the year 2007 is hands down the international move from Australia to the UK and so far managing to not lose it completely in the process!

Yeah I try to keep a note of these things.
While I'm happy to watch each of my kids make their next step in life but I do get sad how fast time goes.
When my daughter started school, she grew up so much in the first 6 months. I remember looking at her one day and couldn't believe how much she had matured.
Alex is going to start school in a couple of weeks.....
I like watching my kids best from a distance, when they don't think I'm watching and they just do whatever their doing. I could watch them for hours....
Well done you for teaching kindergarten. I sometimes go into class as a parent helper and you teachers are saints.
I love how their little minds work but I used to be exhausted after my one hour a week.
Hi Melissa,
Okay, moving overseas is a very impressive "let's tick this off the to-do list".
Did you have a white Christmas? Does it really compare to a hot day, throwing back some prawns followed by a game of cricket/soccer/touch footy and a swim?
