DADS' SEX LIVES PLUMMET, BEFORE AND AFTER BIRTH - SAID THE HEADLINE
April 19th 2007 03:00
Newsflash?
You don’t say.
Did we really need a survey to tell us that?
Are men really that clueless that someone had to commission an official document for men to realize that sex, in the few weeks leading up to a birth and especially in the first few weeks after a birth, is probably a distant dream. Surely not. Surely we can give men more credit than that.
Don’t get me wrong, having information is better than having no information; but isn’t this the sort of information that can be passed on during doctor’s visits, antenatal classes, friends.
Admittedly I don’t know all the results of the survey, just what was in the smh.com.au article; hopefully they surveyed things like how long before a woman felt comfortable having sex; did the man’s libido change after the birth of a baby; were there other factor’s other than the birth that affected a woman’s libido; how does a woman view her body after having a baby; how does a man view a pregnant woman’s body; how does a man view a woman’s body after having a baby.
I could go on. It’s no secret that a couple’s sex life changes after the birth of a baby. It’s also no secret that it can lead to further problems within a relationship. Isn’t it better to try and find answers to some questions instead of stating the obvious?
A SURVEY of new fathers has confirmed that men's sex lives take a dive during and after their partner's pregnancy.

Lack of information and counselling for couples, particularly men, was often responsible for unrealistic expectations, wrote the study's lead author, Moira Williamson, co-ordinator of the midwifery program at the University of NSW.

See I was in the delivery room with my friend when she had her baby... and with my Godchild`s mother when my godchild was born...all I have to say.....
BRING ON THE DRUGS MAN!!!! I want everything from gas and air to epidurals! your kid is only going to grow up to give you hassles for 18 years (if they leave home then) and you probably didn`t get ALL the satisfaction from the conception so you may as well enjoy SOMETHING along the way... plus when are you ever going to enjoy LEGAL drugs...
As for parents still having sex... well until I am one I DON`T WANT TO KNOW... way.......WAAAAAYYYY too much info, scar me for life... *GRIN*

Yikes, you're brave being in the delivery room Ash, and must be truly a wonderful friend/godmother.
I highly recommend the gas! I overdid it at one point and let's say I was more than a little incoherent for a while there - but feeling blissfully unaware of anything!
18?? That's wishful thinking these days LOL - the poor couple living opposite us have two grown kids still living at home.
